02 – Tonnesen’s Signed and Attributed Prints
Prints bearing signatures or attributions from Lois’ collection
This print of a mother and child, shown here on a 1921 calendar by the Osborne Co,. was discussed in a 1954 article about Tonnesen in the Oshkosh Daily Northwestern. According to the newspaper, Tonnesen stated she sold the original photograph to the Osborne Company for $1000. The calendar shown includes a flyleaf stating ''The Love that's Nearest Heaven'. Hand-painted water color after a photograph from life.' The flyleaf doesn't state who did the hand-painting. It may well have been done after the purchase was made by someone employed by the calendar company. The mother may be the woman identified by child model Virginia Waller as Jean Blackwell. Please see the original photo signed by Tonnesen in catalog album 3.
