01 – An Introduction to Tonnesen’s Work
A Sampling of Tonnesen prints from Lois’ collection.
'The Exchange Bank Calendars', all unsigned. All were copyrighted by The Osborne Company. These monthly mailing calendars from Cedarville, Ohio are part of a set of twelve that were mailed to bank customers each month beginning in July, 1919 and ending June, 1920 (their fiscal year, no doubt). Of the twelve calendars, five feature photos that may be found in the Tonnesen Archive of the Oshkosh Public Museum. They are (clockwise from top left): 'The Bazaar', November, 1919; Iris, January, 1920; 'The Summer Girl', June, 1920; 'Under the Lilacs, May, 1920'. Not shown: 'Flowers of Dreamland', October, 1920. It is quite likely that all twelve started as Tonnesen photos, as the museum owns only a sampling of Tonnesen's work.
